Exam Results 2020
Congratulations to our Year 11, 12 and 13 students on their exceptional commitment to learning during their GCSE, AS/A Level and BTEC courses. Although the pandemic denied them the chance to formally demonstrate this learning in their final examinations, this does not alter the fact that they have worked incredibly hard with the fantastic support of their teachers to equip themselves with invaluable knowledge and skills throughout their courses at Wheatley Park School
After the cancellation of the exams, schools were asked to provide Centre Assessed Grades for each student - professional predictions of the grades they would have achieved had they sat their exams. Initially, the government had intended to adjust these Centre Assessed Grades to keep overall achievement in line with previous years. However, after concerns about the fairness of the adjustment process for A-Level students, students have now been awarded whichever grade is higher out of the Centre Assessed Grade and the adjusted grade for each subject at GCSE, A-Level and AS-Level.
We would like to reassure parents/carers and students that the process for determining Centre Assessed Grades at Wheatley Park School and across the River Learning Trust was robust, objective and extremely professional, as outlined in greater detail here. Therefore, while no one will ever know exactly what grades each student would have achieved had they sat their exams, we are confident that the grades they have been awarded are the most accurate reflection possible of their capability in each subject.
Most importantly, the vast majority of students have been awarded the grades they require to move on to their preferred destinations in education, employment or training. We look forward to seeing many of our Year 11 students back in our Sixth Form in September and we are delighted that our Year 13 students have received grades they require to progress, with 70% of them heading off to universities, including Oxford and Cambridge.
Ultimately, the students’ time at WPS should not be defined by coronavirus. We are immensely proud of these young people who over and over again lived up to our value of Everyone Caring in addition to enacting our value of Everyone Learning. On behalf of the school community, we thank them for their enormously positive contributions to school life and wish them all the very best as they enter the next phase of their lives.
